Another run in a week – is this madness?
Decided to go for a run straight after work and packed up my new funky Asics sports holdall with lots of suitable gear. It turned out well too, in that I had a meeting in the afternoon at our Hartlepool site, so I was virtually on the doorstep of my running start point at the end of the work day. I stripped and changed and headed out into a lovely evening, lots of sunshine, a bit cloudy but darn windy again. Still I didn’t mind so much as it kept lots of people at home, however there was still a good representation of people milling around in Seaton. The run out was pretty easy but the return was a bit hard as I was running into a stiff headwind. Add to this too that I was wearing a bit too much gear and it was a tad too hot with the tailwind but not so bad being a bit cooler with the headwind … I was overdressed. I managed to pass four women running in a line abreast on the way out but I only saw one more runner heading my way on the entire run. When I did finish there seemed to be dozens of people running around, I know it’s the Burn Road Harriers meetup tonight in Seaton but I really don’t think that they accounted for half of he runners who were milling around.
I know that I dwell heavily on getting fit and remaining young and all. But what about the mind I hear you chatter.
Well I’ve had another thought on that, it’s all very well to focus on mental acumen and the like, playing Professor Layton endlessly and bothering Mensa for certification that you can still do sums, but don’t you think there’s more to it than that. I personally see a lot of people of my age who are gracelessly old before their time, a young person with a colour on their hair and they’re writing to their MP, or even worse a young person with colour on their hair and that’s cool and they want to go over and tell them about the crazy things they did when they were young… noooo for both.
I work in an art college and luckily I see young persons every day, I don’t work as closely with them as some do, but I see them, I walk along corridors and they walk along them too, I say hi and they might say hi back. I don’t know where I’m going with this at all…
Anyway old fartedness can hit us at any time, least expectedly we can all be hit by it unnoticed.
I think a really good workout for this is to look for men sporting a trouser around the hip… (which I believe might already be unhip…. unhip geddit, never mind). Anyway do this and try to resist that feeling, y’know that one thar rises from the gut…. push it down and grit ones teeth, then resist the inevitable statement…. grrrrr resist, resist…. Do this twice a day and I assure you, it’ll stop the onset of old gittedness, well it’ll help.
Another exercise to try is to wear ones trouser in such a manner, I did it at Glastonbury (the real old gits festival 🙂 ) when I’d mislaid a belt and I found it remarkably liberating. I do assure you that every younger person – and there are a lot of them now – who spotted me remarked upon “who’s that old git think he is”.
Need I say more… I can y’know
Anyway these don’t reflect well on my efforts, see what you think?

I don’t geddit, my body was already feeling better, perhaps I can’t trust the scales, perhaps it’s the sausage sandwich that I had yesterday morning.
