Well I should have run over the weekend but I didn’t bother as quite frankly my bum was hurting too much.
Here’s me thinking my buttock clenching abilities had grown through the stages of sawness to a stage when cracking nuts was on the cards for next Christmas. What folly when a bit of DIY shows them up for the weak little sausages they really are.
This weekend saw me working on my house again, I’d had a bit of a lull on the restoration recently but I’d beavered on with odds and sods and this weekend I had a full day to tackle some work in the attic. Now attic work meant working up a loft ladder, no biggy going up and down a ladder but do it wayyy too many times and you’re using muscles that you don’t use on a standard run and muscles that had been on holiday in Tenerife for the past year – chillin’ and now they were in for a severe mountain climb.
My problem with working in the attic was:
Climb ladder and tackle job
Back down ladder to find tape measure
Up with measure and back onto the job
Back down ladder, then downstairs to find pencil
Up with pencil and a bit of timber to work on job…. Etc..
I barely noticed it while doing it, but the next morning things were all a bit sore, so sore I decided to miss out on my Sunday run and spend the morning sleeping in in my bottom bunk (yes that’s what I get when I stay over at my folks J ) chatting to my little girl in the top bunk and doing secrets bunk bed knocks to one other.
I was secretly pleased.
Still I did get out this Wednesday instead, an after work run.
Another one of those runs when it was Captain Speedy one way and a slow dirge into a headwind the other way. Not as bad as last week though, it was wet and windy but not as strong.
I headed out of Seaton, fully realising that the wind was behind me I tried to keep up a good pace, knowing that there would be a headwind on the return I’d decided on a speedy outrun and a job back into the wind.
On the way out I caught and passed a girl who was making a good pace, she tried to stretch out and pass me again but only managed a few yards before giving up, thank grud.
I got to the turn around expecting a full on gale but it wasn’t too bad. Well it was bad but in comparison to last Wednesday it was a breeze. On the way back up the front the heavens opened and there was a bit of a downpour, it only lasted minutes and I wasn’t dressed for it but it was quite a welcome cool down.
Getting to the finish I’d decided on fish and chips again. I went into the Almighty cod and got some suspicious glances from the counter staff. Did I look all snot and sweat again, did I look like some old perv’ trying to carry lycra unsuccessfully, I don’t know I just felt very uncomfortable.
As I got to the front of the queue an old dear in front of me was told by the staff that she’d cut into the queue and that “the gentleman behind you” was next in line – me a gentleman J
I realised then perhaps why they’d been looking oddly in my direction, I turned to the lady in question (who must have felt rather uncomfortable and embarrassed) that I would have told her and spared her blushes but I just thought she’s placed an order and was picking it up. I hope that helped. I also said – quietly – that the Almighty Cod was the best fish shop around.
On getting server I got a rather large portion, I wonder if it was my comment, my sparing the old lady her blushes, my manly glow or just that they always server that size a portion… I like to think all the above and more… I do live in a fantasy world J
Talking of diet, I’m pretty svelte but not svelte enough for me, I could do with losing my spare tyre and to this end I’ve adopted the 5:2 diet over the past five weeks.
I’ve always liked the 5:2 diet, it’s great to get one healthy (switching your body into repair mode) and it works for me unlike everything else I’ve ever tried.
However over the past five weeks – or so – I’ve mostly put on weight and last week I lost an ounce, this was the last straw.
With this in mind I resorted to tough new measures and rather than just do the 600 calorie a day thing I decided to rough out a full starvation day, yeah I did resort to some coffee with milk all day but on Tuesday I didn’t have anything at all to eat all day.
It wasn’t too bad but on Wednesday morning I kept waking up hungry wishing it was breakfast time. I had some weird dreams too and morning breakfast on Wednesday was very welcome.
I think now I’ll try a 600 calorie Thursday – today – and see how my weight does at the weekend.
It could be just my muscle mass that’s offsetting the weight loss. I have done a lot of running over the past five weeks, since a complete lay-off over the winter. It could be that but the tape measure isn’t indicating any spare tyre loss yet too.
